João Antonio Coco (1837-1910). He was born in Sao Luis, Maranhao province.

At eighteen years of age was studying at Central School of Arts and Manufactures, Paris, France.

In 1860, published in Paris, with assistance from the government of the Province of Maranhao, the book Treaty of Arithmetic.

When he was in Central School, he started to attend classes at the Faculty of Sciences of Paris. This institution received a bachelor's degree in science. Away for two years, assistant coach of the chair of Experimental Physics, Faculty of Sciences.

In 1862 received his degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Brussels, Belgium.

still in the city of Brussels had worked at the Astronomical Observatory under the direction of Adolphe Quetelet (1796-1874). Subsequently returned to Maranhão where he had worked as a professor of secondary education. In 1901 he was appointed director of the College D. Pedro II, the city of Rio de Janeiro. Died in that city.
